My illegals-to-Philly wish comes true

Permit me to gloat.

Months ago, when I read that some dastardly Republican governors were bussing illegal undocument “migrants” from their overwhelmed border towns to Sanctuary Cities in the North, such as New York, Chicago and Washington, I complained that Philadelphia was being overlooked.

Illegals to New York greeted with a handshake — then. (Photo: The New York Times)

I wrote an Open Letter to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott asking him stop discriminating and to send us Philly’s share.

I can’t say if it is causal or coincidence, but the fact is, he is doing just as I asked. It’s Open Borders time in Philly!

You may recall when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent a busload to Martha’s Vineyard there was a special howl of outrage, although DeSantis wasn’t doing anything much different than the federal government — sending illegals around the country. And the government refuses to say how many are sent where.

If you read this link on the subject, you will understand that almost all those seeking asylum are gaming the system. It’s not just me. CNN anchor Fareed Zakari, who came here as a legal immigrant, says the Venezuelans are “gaming the system.”

And former President Bill Clinton agrees.

Immigrants, especially from  Venezuela, understand asylum law better than you. Here’s what it says:

Asylum-seekers must prove that they would be persecuted on at least one of five protected grounds: Race, Religion, Nationality, Political opinion, or as a particular social group. (Such as gays, for example.)

Asylum is offered to protect a class of individuals from persecution flowing from inherent characteristics.

Notice what is not included: Hunger, joblessness, climate change, drought, flood, threats from criminal gangs, lack of housing. All of these are sad characteristics, but they do not provide a basis for asylum under U.S. law.

The reason is simple: If poverty, for example, were admissible grounds for asylum, that would bring hundreds of millions to our doors. Think of the U.S. as a lifeboat with a limited number of seats. Try to “rescue” too many and the lifeboat sinks, drowning everyone.

Now you understand the law.

Now, here is the reality: The latest batch of immigrants know that they are entitled to a hearing before a judge and also know there are not enough judges, and a hearing could take years to arrange. During that time, Biden allows them to wait in the U.S.

The court backlog now stands at 1.6 million and the immigrants know if they can manage to stay here for a few years, they and their Open Borders supporters will claim “they have put down roots” here and it would be “cruel” to send them back. Just as sanctuary cities will not send back convicted felons.

So Philly is preparing for a busload of 52 and private agencies are prepared to give them phones, food, clothing, and shelter.

Mayor Kenney says they are coming here for a better life, as immigrants have always done. He does not say that his grandparents, and mine, came here legally, following the laws at that time.

The phones, food, clothing, shelter and other humanitarian benefits are things we do not supply to legal immigrants.

That’s right — the illegals get benefits the people who do the right thing don’t get. If this doesn’t meet the definition of insanity, nothing does.

So Republican governors have granted my wish to send more illegals here.

And we will see just how long the welcome mat will remain out — New York Mayor Eric Adams says he can’t handle the flood that he seemed to wish for.

He’s got President Joe Biden and Border Czar Kamala Harris to thank.

  1. HAPPY MONDAY !!!
    pallie,
    SARCASM:
Since so many of the woke, tear stained and liberal want these ILLEGALS, maybe you can get your mayor, police commissioner and district attorney to cough some quads or some other set of illegal wheels to further aide these illegals.
BTW. Fox news at noon was showing a wonderful piece of ‘tourist ‘ propaganda for Philly, which goes hand and hand with the busload of illegals.
The Mexican government is showing ads on what illegal drugs will do to their youth. ( There I go with that ‘illegal’ word, again ). They made commercials highlighting ( lowlighting ) Kensington. In particular, Kensington Ave. and McPherson Square. They probably just borrowed existing footage of our crime/drug scene and added a little hype. Suppositionally, the use of drugs in Mexico is low compared to their favorite customer. Us ! the U.S.

  2. Here is a fun idea: have all the current residents of Philadelphia LEAVE immediately, then return on buses, claiming refugee status. Presto! Free food, money, clothing, et cetera.

On a more serious note, I find the whole situation hilarious: liberals, whining about their policies exploding in their faces.

  3. Here’s a little information concerning the law for aiding illegals in any way, shape or form.
    1907. TITLE 8, U.S.C. 1324(A) OFFENSES
Title 8, U.S.C. § 1324(a) defines several distinct offenses related to aliens. Subsection 1324(a)(1)(i)-(v) prohibits alien smuggling, domestic transportation of unauthorized aliens, concealing or harboring unauthorized aliens, encouraging or inducing unauthorized aliens to enter the United States, and engaging in a conspiracy or aiding and abetting any of the preceding acts. Subsection 1324(a)(2) prohibits bringing or attempting to bring unauthorized aliens to the United States in any manner whatsoever, even at a designated port of entry. Subsection 1324(a)(3).

The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA), enacted on September 30, 1996, added a new 8 U.S.C. § 1324(a)(3)(A) which makes it an offense for any person, during any 12-month period, to knowingly hire at least 10 individuals with actual knowledge that these individuals are unauthorized aliens

Penalties — The basic statutory maximum penalty for violating 8 U.S.C. § 1324(a)(1)(i) and (v)(I) (alien smuggling and conspiracy) is a fine under title 18, imprisonment for not more than 10 years, or both

    1. TRUE THAT, Vinnie !
Further. I’m pretty sure that there was ‘head count’ on the hiring of illegals. One was enough to get your hand slapped !
Further again: All of these wonderful ‘do gooders’ are breaking the law. You know. The law that everyone else is breaking. Some years back, following the money would put you with Soros and family, using their many companies to send people to the countries where the new to be ILLEGALS were trying to escape. Soros supplied the money, buses, food and clothing along the route and I wouldn’t be a bit surprised that a free cell phone was thrown in there also .
If you feel so bad for these ILLEGALS, then take one or two home with you.

      1. To the Left it is FEELINGS that count. The law takes second (or even third or fourth) place to FEELINGS.

  4. Letting in all these Venezuelans and shipping them to dem cities is clearly a GOP plot to replace urban democrats with these conservative voters who broke 2 to 1 in favor of Trump in the last election. For example see this: https://assets.bwbx.io/images/users/iqjWHBFdfxIU/iQTLMUXDoArs/v1/-1x-1.jpg (Venezuelan flag with Trump flag in Trump caravan) or this https://nacla.org/venezuelan-american-trump-voters (“How Venezuelan Americans Embraced Trump as Their Savior”). Most Venezuelans are in Texas and Florida, states that don’t need the extra votes, so the logical thing is to ship them to dem cities. Why else would Texas spend about $1700 per immigrant for a bus ticket that would cost one-tenth of that?

    1. Non citizens do not vote in political elections with a few rare exceptions, like for school board, but those are legal residents. If you are legal it takes 5 or more years to get citizenship.
