Thought for today

This meme was posted by a right-wing group. Some of you may have seen it around. Some of you may agree with it. Some of you may think it is true.

It is not true. The U.S. Constitution protects everyone under its jurisdiction — guilty, innocent, citizen, non-citizen. It is one reason why America is a great nation, an exceptional nation, a nation under law.

  1. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe there were no Americans when the Constitution was written. The Constitution created Americans from the English, Swedes, Germans, French, etc.who immigrated to the American colonies. Then, as time passed, it incorporated immigrants from non-western European countries. As more time passed it even welcomed people from Africa and Asia.

  2. The first thing I did was Google DO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS HAVE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS? Well, that’s like asking Don Lemon or Rachel Maddow. Nothing conservative there. I chose to go no further. This is your best Blog to date, Stu. Your find and posting has opened a CAN OF WORMS. Good for you! I’m looking forward to this one.

  3. Stu, of course you are absolutely correct: “The U.S. Constitution protects everyone under its jurisdiction…”. But this also means that if you come here illegally, AS JURISDICTION DICTATATES, then you, the illegal alien (or is that term no PC anymore?), are subject to its protection and LAWS. It seems that the carrying out of the current immigration laws is a problem at the moment, depending upon one’s left or right viewpoint.

What amazes me more than anything else, is the fact that if you or I visit virtually any other country around the globe illegally, and you’re caught, you’re going to jail – period. And that includes our North neighbor, Canada. What’s the problem around here? Well – do I have to really answer that? Nah – I’ll leave that for Stu…he does a much better job.
