Standing up for Ukraine and President Trump

Do not boycott, as some are planning to do. That is leaving the field of battle.

What should Democrats do during President Donald J. Trump’s address to a joint session of congress Tuesday night?

My opinion? Thanks for asking.

Do not boycott, as some are planning to do. That is leaving the field of battle. Put on your big boy pants — yeah, you too, John Fetterman — and look him straight in the eye.

Do not boo, catcall or call him a “liar,” as South Carolina Republican jackass Joe Wilson did to President Barack Obama. (He later apologized.) And, because you know I am pretty nonpartisan, let’s remember how petty Nancy Pelosi was when she tore up Trump’s State of the Union speech. Just rude.

Pretend D stands for dignity.

You are not in a low-rent comedy club where you are free to heckle the comics. You are representatives in what we like to think of as a great deliberative body. Notice how carefully I phrased that.

America is still buzzing about the Oval Office explosion, which was set off by Vice President JD Vance in my opinion. Yours may vary, I am not interested in fighting that here. That’s why I am on Facebook.

The victim was Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, which was invaded by Russia three years ago. I repeat for some MAGA and Trump — Russia invaded Ukraine.

To oppose the President and stand with Ukraine, I urge every Democrat to wear blue and yellow, the colors of Ukraine’s flag. Ladies might wear blue and yellow scarfs, or jewelry. Men might wear lapel pins or ties. And if you check the “other” gender box, figure it out for yourself.

This will show that you stand with Ukraine.

Take it to the next level — stand up during his address, to physically express you standing with Ukraine.

This is not booing, or rude. It’s kind of like a standing ovation, minus the ovation.

And since it is as certain as the sun rising in the east that Trump will lie, or distort, during his Misstate of the Union, laugh when he goes into the wild blue yonder.

Don’t boo — laugh at him.

It might remind him of the UN General Assembly meeting in 2018 when the delegates laughed at some of his cockamamie boasts. Like he was doing standup.

“I didn’t expect that reaction, but that’s OK,” he said at the time.

Remember that? One of the great moments of the American Presidency.

So, Democrats, laugh at him Tuesday night.

He might not be expecting it.
