Standing before the back door to Independence Hall, President Joe Biden delivered a forthright political address, but did it in a slightly unusual way.

Sounding almost like a cleric at the lectern, when Biden talked about the promise and purpose of America, he spoke in frankly patriotic terms that might make  some of his supporters squirm — looking at you, The Squad and AOC. America was the most powerful idea in the history of the world, he said.

Patriotism from a Democrat. Will wonders never cease?

He used the term “We the People” — the opening phrase of the U.S. Constitution nine times, and scolded those who do not respect the will of the people.

That would be Donald J. Trump and what Biden called “MAGA Republicans” who do not accept the result of the election and who resort to actual violence, or the language of violence. 

To them, Biden said, it’s either “we won” or “we were cheated.”

Clearly, they are the enemies to the soul of the nation, and this is a theme other Democrats will mimic.

The speech ran 24 minutes, and on Thursday night Biden stuck to the script, avoiding meandering and puzzling anecdotes. Corn Pop remained on the bench. Biden was focused and animated. Even Fox News will have trouble mocking his delivery.

He checklisted some of his achievements — infrastructure, gun safety law, reduced medicine costs, action on energy.

He acknowledged “the last few years have been tough,” but did not name check inflation and a rising crime wave.

Biden does not have a sparking speechwriter, his most memorable phrases came from the Constitution.

Nor is he an inspiring speechmaker, but this speech was a clean double.

MAGA Republicans will continue the senility attack, of course, but Biden showed he’s still got a few good punches to throw.

    While you were walking the hallways getting fit, I was in DELCO. That place that you visited once if not twice. I came home too tired to listen to joey spew his nothingness. The four keystones that you mentioned, will not hold up an outhouse. As I said before, people should at least read the summary of the I’m gonna get ‘cha bill that is NOT for the middle class.
    Joey is an old time politician. He can stand at a podium and talk for hours and not make any sense – but it will sound good. Then step doom to mingle with the crowd, play glad hand with the adoring dims and kiss babies.
    Meantime, the republican party will sit back and whine. WE ( shoulda ) WON ! We (let them steal the election and ) were cheated ! With this altitude, we are in deep trouble. ALL of us are in deep trouble. We can not allow four more years of a ruling dimocrat party.

    2. Tell us, Tony, how you have managed to align yourself with white supremacy and violent extremism. How did that happen, I wonder? How do you support those who wish to declare, without ANY evidence, that all our elections are rigged? How do you agree with people who openly suggest that violence against other Americans is okay and should be encouraged? How do you agree with those working to ensure black people and other minorities in this country have a more difficult time voting, people who are actually the REAL ones trying to rig fair elections?

      In short, Tony, how did you forget the very principles that have always defined America? And how do you sleep at night knowing this? Also, and this is just a small piece of advice, stop shouting DRAIN THE SWAMP at every turn. It’s juvenile, means exactly nothing, and makes you look very, very foolish. I mean, WHO are you voting for if you should “vote them all out”? Who do you want in office? Should we vote all the Republicans in office out as well or is it only the Democrats who you think are “the swamp”? What is your definition of “the swamp”? Are the people your orange god placed in office also the swamp? Your striking generalizations are embarrassing, or they would be if you actually understood how ridiculous they sound. Last night Biden said “vote, vote, vote”, which almost comically sounds exactly like what you said, except for the “OUT” part. No, he suggested you vote for who you want, not just vote against those already in office. Imagine that concept.

      I weep for the future of this great land if people such as you continue to deny reality and align with criminals like Donald Trump and his ilk. If you can’t see the difference between that clown and the many rational, caring human beings, out there in the world, we are done.

I get my information by reading the actual laws and bills and by listening to the words that come out of the actual mouths of the politicians and then verifying them by seeking independent, trustworthy sources.           2. Yeah. I try to do the same. I also question my representatives. I go to forums, meet and greets and read copiously. But see what you get when you try logic? Daniel, will post something misspelled and ungrammatical about us being haters — without once addressing anything substantive. Tony will babble quasi word salad and suggest that we are socialists, despite not knowing what the word means. It’s pointless freeze and H. BTW, as a poll greeter/observer I saw the same kind of ugliness and nastiness directed against my fellow poll workers and me during the primaries. And guess which side the sheriff has to be called to intervene with? It’s not ours.

    I did not vote for Biden and I believe there election was tainted with the stain of outside money. That said, Biden won the election and I was hoping that he would follow through on his promise to unite the country again. He has failed on this important task.

    I did not hear his speech and I can only hope that if your analysis is correct, he continues in that direction. He needs to separate himself from the antagonistic hard left rhetoric in the same manner that the hardcore Trump apologists in the GOP need to correct course.

    I am so tired of hearing both extremes, it is exhausting. Just look at your comment section.

  4. “The eyes are the windows to the soul.” If that be true, Joe has no soul as his eyes are eerily vacant. If the Left holds onto power in the mid-term elections, I am not sure the country will survive Joe. But we survived Nixon and LBJ, so maybe we the people will hold fast, despite the screwballs on both sides of the political spectrum. In any event, I am happy we have a Second Amendment.

      1. Please list the “many” Trump policies we should consider “great”. Love to hear them. Oh, and while you’re at it, please name the specific Biden policies that are “destroying” America. You do realize that inflation is rampant internationally, and that it was a result of a supply chain severely damaged by a global pandemic, one that Trump LIED to you about extensively so he wouldn’t look bad (see the tape, genius).

        You support an ignorant, narcissistic, vile criminal who has spent his entire life ripping people off in New York City and Atlantic City before he moved into politics so he could rip YOUR arse off, too. His actions are only defensible if you refuse to believe things that are well known to all.   10. 1st off the election was not stolen. President Biden smeared 74 million voters when he spoke of all MAGA republicans believing the election was stolen. I don’t believe that is true. The seditious acts of January 6, 2020 stained our beliefs and hopes in a peaceful transfer of power. However the Nicknamer in Chief had some accomplishments while in office. Specifically the tax cuts that stimulated the economy. The immigration policy protected our southern borders. However his Malignant Comments about Handicap individuals, disrespectful comments about senator McCain and the other Military heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our county are mean spirited. I believe he had his day in the sun. I believe both Biden and Trump won’t win the next presidential election. Let’s move on to the next generation of leaders. The speech’s purpose was to rally the base of the Democratic Party.

      “Now, I want to be very clear, very clear up front. Not every Republican, not even the majority of Republicans, are MAGA Republicans.”

      My understanding was that he was talking about the folks threatening, suggesting or advocating violence against the FBI, the folks chanting “hang Mike Pence” and attacking police officers, and the fringe groups like the Proud Boys and Oathkeepers who have been indicted for conspiring to attack the Capitol. And, while there is quite a bit of doubt whether Trump, in the first instance, had anything to do with or knew about these intentions, he was now come out and said he wants to pardon the Capitol rioters–in other words, “violence and lawbreaking on my behalf is just fine with me, and will be rewarded.” Sorry, but yes, this so-called MAGA outlook is dangerous and concerning.

        2. He should have been referring to criminals, not political parties.
          Where was the outrage from the Democratic leaders during the rioting after George Floyd?
          Staying quite, for political reasons or providing excuses and cover for the criminals. This is the same as Replicant leaders, now.

          Most Americans just want their leaders to lead, not pander.

If you were Joe Biden, you would ponder that. How could you not? But Joe Biden is not doing that. In the final days of his 79th year, Joe Biden is not asking questions about the fate of his soul. He’s making pronouncements about yours, the soul of the nation, as he puts it.

    For all of you that slept through grade school civic classes. When I say ‘drain the swamp…..’ I mean exactly that. If you think that politicians are in Washington D.C. for our benefit, I have a nice piece of land to sell you in Florida. For the past 60 – 70 years, Washington has been submerging into the swamp. Along with the politicians, education has taken its nasty turn. I suppose that moe, larry and curline are so blinded with hate for Trump that they are willing to embrace socialism. We HAVE been on that path for years and finally – sorry to say – it’s obvious. (Unless you hate orange man.)
    ‘Vote them all out…’ means exactly that. Years ago ( ’80s) , the morning drive guy – Jim Gearhardt on NJ 101.5, with the help of a newspaper guy from North Jersey, came up with that phrase and BOHICA ( bend over here it comes again ). Pardon my math, by constitution, we can change out congress every election by about a third. ( house elect every 2 years while the senate elects for 6 years ). If the politicians were truly representing us, we would not need term limits are other threats. If they were the STATESMEN of old, they would be for the people of these United States. Biden is a god ( BAD ) example. He passed the bar – or someone passed it for him. He had a meaningless job in a law firm for the dog and pony show, then the rest is politics. As is most so called lawyers in D.C. Some actually have practiced law and fewer still have studied and practiced CONSTITUTIONAL LAW. Joey is a party voter – like most. So why do we keep THEM around ?

    1. Remember when inflation was under 2 percent. Remember when we were energy independent. Remember when we had a stay in Mexico policy and we tried to build a wall. Remember when millions were coming off the welfare and food stamp rolls. Remember when we had more Americans working than in any time in our history. The good old days. Who was president than?

    2. I’m doubting it, Dan. In their case, and as goes the old adage, ‘Weak minds think alike.’ And as for Joe Biden scoring a “double” i’d agree. He’s got two sides of the citizenry going at each other’s throat. IMO, as of right now, we are not United States. A crying disgrace.

    3. I’ll take a shot at it. Let’s start with three things Trump promised, and didn’t do, but Biden did.
      1. Infrastructure. Trump promised $1 trillion in infrastructure. We got nada. Biden put together a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill and got it passed into law.

      2. Lowering drug prices. Trump promised to allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices. Didn’t happen. Biden passed it. Lowering drug prices was promised by Trump to be a “major focus.” Instead, he hired Azar to head the FDA, who oversaw drug pricing at Eli Lilly for years. (Swampity, swamp, swamp, swamp).True, in 2020, with election approaching, he slapped his forehead, and said “I forgot” and issued a slew of executive orders, some of which got blocked by the courts, and others which could not be turned into regulations in time for the election. You will be happy to know that Biden has issued similar revamped executive orders as Trump did that are working their way through the rule-making process to cut drug prices.

      3. Leaving Afghanistan. It wasn’t pretty (but not quite as ugly as Viet Nam) and it likely could have been done way better, but Biden got us out. Another promise Trump made, but Biden kept.
      Were you for all these things before you were against them, or did we dodge a bullet when Trump didn’t keep these promises?

      That’s for starters. I am very curious about how Biden is destroying the country. Maybe I can be swayed.

      1. What Biden did in Afghanistan was a disgrace. He left with no conditions and didn’t listen to his generals. He abandoned hundreds of American citizens and thousands of our allies. God help them . Who knows if they are still living. And he left blllions of dollars of weapons to our enemies. As for his other promises he was voted out by stupid Americans who couldn’t take peace and prosperity.

Daniel, I’ll give you Afghanistan, but there is a case to be made that the debacle was inevitable because the Afghan government forces were unwilling to fight, and rushed to quickly surrender to the Taliban. It might just have been a bad idea to leave, in which case Trump had the same misjudgment.

          That aside, I will assume that you do approve of the other two Biden policies, because Trump would have done the same thing if the “stupid voters” hadn’t thrown him out. So Biden did at least two good things! You should be happy.

          I am still waiting the specific legislation, executive orders etc., that Biden issued that are ruining the country.

  14. Surprisingly no one is defending Biden. All they can do is criticize someone who did a pretty good job. Trump has been lied about since before he took office by the democrats and the mainstream media. And people have been blinded by these lies because they only hear one side. The Russian hoax proved to be false. Hillary Clinton the FBI Obama Biden John Brennan James clapper all knew it was a lie and the American people believe them. You have to admire the courage of president trump to fight back against these unamerican scum bags.

    1. I don’t want to presume to answer for H. or freeze but I think they will agree with this. We would post fact based substantive arguments about Biden if we thought it would make any difference. Trump did have two things right – he loves the uneducated and he could shoot someone in the middle of 5th Ave and would not lose any of his followers.   15. FYI…The best take yet on the speech is Greg Gutfeld’s on The Five. The former bleeding heart liberal from California has become imho the new Rush Limbaugh. I won’t waste my time here or yours with details. The Five is on again on FNC 5 am tomorrow if curious. I need to watch again.
