My illegals-to-Philly wish comes true

Permit me to gloat.

Months ago, when I read that some dastardly Republican governors were bussing illegal undocument “migrants” from their overwhelmed border towns to Sanctuary Cities in the North, such as New York, Chicago and Washington, I complained that Philadelphia was being overlooked.

I wrote an Open Letter to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott asking him stop discriminating and to send us Philly’s share.

I can’t say if it is causal or coincidence, but the fact is, he is doing just as I asked. It’s Open Borders time in Philly!

You may recall when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent a busload to Martha’s Vineyard there was a special howl of outrage, although DeSantis wasn’t doing anything much different than the federal government — sending illegals around the country. And the government refuses to say how many are sent where.

If you read this link on the subject, you will understand that almost all those seeking asylum are gaming the system. It’s not just me. CNN anchor Fareed Zakari, who came here as a legal immigrant, says the Venezuelans are “gaming the system.”

And former President Bill Clinton agrees.

Immigrants, especially from  Venezuela, understand asylum law better than you. Here’s what it says:

Asylum-seekers must prove that they would be persecuted on at least one of five protected grounds: Race, Religion, Nationality, Political opinion, or as a particular social group. (Such as gays, for example.)

Asylum is offered to protect a class of individuals from persecution flowing from inherent characteristics.

Notice what is not included: Hunger, joblessness, climate change, drought, flood, threats from criminal gangs, lack of housing. All of these are sad characteristics, but they do not provide a basis for asylum under U.S. law.

The reason is simple: If poverty, for example, were admissible grounds for asylum, that would bring hundreds of millions to our doors. Think of the U.S. as a lifeboat with a limited number of seats. Try to “rescue” too many and the lifeboat sinks, drowning everyone.

Now you understand the law.

Now, here is the reality: The latest batch of immigrants know that they are entitled to a hearing before a judge and also know there are not enough judges, and a hearing could take years to arrange. During that time, Biden allows them to wait in the U.S.

The court backlog now stands at 1.6 million and the immigrants know if they can manage to stay here for a few years, they and their Open Borders supporters will claim “they have put down roots” here and it would be “cruel” to send them back. Just as sanctuary cities will not send back convicted felons.

So Philly is preparing for a busload of 52 and private agencies are prepared to give them phones, food, clothing, and shelter.

Mayor Kenney says they are coming here for a better life, as immigrants have always done. He does not say that his grandparents, and mine, came here legally, following the laws at that time.

The phones, food, clothing, shelter and other humanitarian benefits are things we do not supply to legal immigrants.

That’s right — the illegals get benefits the people who do the right thing don’t get. If this doesn’t meet the definition of insanity, nothing does.

So Republican governors have granted my wish to send more illegals here.

And we will see just how long the welcome mat will remain out — New York Mayor Eric Adams says he can’t handle the flood that he seemed to wish for.

He’s got President Joe Biden and Border Czar Kamala Harris to thank.
