D.A. Larry Krasner

Mary Sunshine Krasner sees no evil

Some days you really have to work hard on this job, to do hard digging, research, and interviews.

Other days, it just drops into your lap.

(Following are stats from the 22nd Police District. Citywide was not available)

Such as the day tone deaf Philadelphia progressive D.A. Larry Krasner stood at a podium and said the rising-crime stats were a myth, a figment of your fevered imagination. His Little Mary Sunshine remarks followed a statement by a minister that he was burying too many of his parishioners. The good pastor must have been confused.

To paraphrase, what Krasner said was not all crime was going through the roof, that Philadelphia was safe.

To those of a certain age, Krasner’s looney optimism channeled Washington D.C. Mayor Marion Barry, who said in 1989: ″Except for the killings, Washington has one of the lowest crime rates in the country.″

Let ‘em Loose Larry, meet “The bitch set me up,” Marion. That was Barry’s quote after being arrested in 1990 while smoking crack with a girlfriend in a hotel room. After serving time, Barry was again elected the Democratic mayor of the Democratic city, leaving some to wonder what it would take to not get elected.

Some Philadelphians, like me, wonder what it would take for Krasner to lose a local election.

As always, I strive to be fair. It is true that selected crimes have dropped in the last year, and the Inquirer was kind enough to prepare a chart.

Decreasing crimes included rape, non-gun aggravated assault, and residential robbery. Why? So many people are working from home because of the pandemic. Burglary usually occurs when the house is empty, and fewer houses are empty.

Fewer women are on the street, or in clubs. There are fewer targets for the criminal.

As to Krazy Krasner, to paraphrase Matthew, “why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye — no-gun robbery — when you have a log in your own?” — record homicides, shootings, aggravated assault.

Not to mention his aversion to prosecuting gun crimes.

After hearing Krasner’s numb nuts statement, former Mayor Michael Nutter reacted using the same words I might:

“I have to wonder what kind of messed up world of white wokeness Krasner is living in to have so little regard for human lives lost, many of them Black and brown, while he advances his own national profile as a progressive district attorney.”

Wow — he went there. Kind of calling him racist, no?

Here’s an unpleasant truth that Krasner won’t see.

While he is slow to prosecute Black and brown criminals (because they are victims of a racist society, you see), he is oblivious to the reality that their victims are Black and brown, and he has been credibly accused of lacking sympathy for victims.

There’s an old saying that if you are a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

But if you are a prosecutor who can’t even see a nail, there is no hope you can fix the problem.
