Kamala hits her left turn signal

So now we know, Kamala Harris has turned left and rolled the dice by selecting leftist, two-term Minnesota governor Tim Walz.

Harris is already being portrayed by Republicans as the “most liberal U.S. senator,” one of the coastal elites. Harris is to the left of Joe Biden, and has now selected a running mate who might be to the left of Bernie Sanders. Midwest usually means “moderate,” but not in this case.

Just so you understand: This is not an indictment, it is an analysis.

On the “plus,” side, according to the Washington Post,  Walz is a military veteran and gun owner. But he runs a deep blue state, and he reacted slowly to the 2020 George Floyd riots. From the capital in St. Paul, he watched as Minneapolis burned across the Mississippi river. Even the liberal The New York Times reported on criticism that the governor delayed sending the National Guard (in which he once served).

The other two white guys supposedly on her short list —  Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly — are both moderates. Each had plusses and minuses.

Walz has no minuses, at least according to CNN White House correspondent MJ Lee. I know her work. She is usually reliable, but not this morning. Her “report” on Walz’s selection was so giddy it could have been written by the Democratic National Committee.

Reporters are not supposed to be cheerleaders.

“Sources” believe that the chemistry between Kamala and Tim was good when they met. It oughta be. And, not for nothing, at 60,  Walz would be unlikely to challenge her in 2028, should she decide to run. Everyone agrees Shapiro has his eyes on the prize of the Presidency. Josh will be a good cheerleader for the team, even with his “minus” of his support for Israel. It is a “minus” mostly among Muslims and progressives.

Minnesota has the largest Somali population in the U.S., and Walz is popular with them, and this may help with Muslims elsewhere.

What will not help with other voters is that Minnesota is a sanctuary state, which means it shields illegals from law enforcement. When illegal immigration is a key issue for voters, being soft on enforcement is not a good thing. It is bad.

He also taught school in China. Wait until the GOP gets its mitts on that!

Walz is virtually unknown on the national stage, he has a cutting sense of humor, and he authored the Republicans are   “weird” narrative.

Kamala weighed the facts and picked a candidate to her as Mike Pence was to Donald J. Trump — someone more like herself than different.

It worked for Trump. Will it work for Harris?
