Ending the lie about why special counsel Hur did not charge Biden

This is not a coverup for Joe Biden. I have been plenty critical of him.

President Biden (left), Special Counsel Hur

What it is, is an attempt to knock down a persistent and pernicious lie about two people:

1- Democratic President Joe Biden

2- Republican Special Counsel Robert Hur

It is the worst kind of lying politics, even without benefit of Artificial Intelligence.

Let me start with Hur. He’s been collateral damage, inadvertently harmed by fellow Republicans who selectively excerpted his words in order to attack Biden.

In his explanatory letter covering his report to the Attorney General, Hur did say, “We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

But that was not why he declined to prosecute. Note the word “also.” Him being old and memory-impaired was subordinate.

The real reason he declined to prosecute was because there were no grounds. “No criminal charges are warranted in this matter,” he wrote, as you can see above in the photo of Page 5 of the Executive Summary. You can read the whole 388-page report here.

I didn’t. You won’t.

He also said, “the evidence does not establish Mr. Biden’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt,” which is the standard a jury must use. For Biden, there is no “there” there, according to the facts, Hur said.

So that’s how Hur was harmed. His words were twisted into something nakedly and solely partisan.

The harm to Biden? That’s self-evident.

Maybe next time I will do Donald J. Trump’s falsely reported “bloodbath” if he is not elected remark. Truth is more important than politics.

  1. Good sleuthing. This is the role of journalism. Pity we don’t see more of it.

  2. Thanks for calling it out. Taking things out of context is the usual procedure in dirty politics.

Since calling out all sides, would like to see put to rest that ridiculous assertion in 2020 that Trump suggested drinking disinfectant (or bleach) to cure COVID. If one listens to the press conference and what the scientists said right before and what he was referencing, he was in no way referring to “disinfectant” as we know it from the household good.

    1. Sorry, but try as you might, there is no way to classify this as anything other than just plain stupid. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-suggests-injection-disinfectant-beat-coronavirus-clean-lungs-n1191216

Here is the FULL context of his word salad.

“A question that probably some of you are thinking of if you’re totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposedly we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it. And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. (To Bryan) And I think you said you’re going to test that, too. Sounds interesting, right?”

“And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning, because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that, so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me. So, we’ll see, but the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. That’s pretty powerful.”

Later, Trump clarified his comments after a reporter asked Bryan whether disinfectants could actually be injected into COVID-19 patients.

“It wouldn’t be through injections, almost a cleaning and sterilization of an area. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t work, but it certainly has a big effect if it’s on a stationary object.”

Trump did not explicitly recommend ingesting a disinfectant like bleach. Nevertheless, his remarks led some companies and state agencies to issue warnings about ingesting disinfectants. The maker of Lysol said in a statement that “under no circumstance” should its products be used in the human body.

      1. Trump was telling auto workers that if Biden is reelected, there will be a bloodbath in the auto industry because America would allegedly be overrun by EV’s and UAW members would lose their jobs.

        1. That is correct, but some Dems are pretending he said there would be a bloodbath in America if he is not elected.
When it comes to the truth, I am nonpartisan.

  3. Hence – a play on words I have long used in conversation: POLI-TRICKS. You article is the pure definition thereof. Thx for bringing it to light.

  4. Joe Biden when he was a senator and vice President and a private citizen willingly retained and shared highly classified information. He was not authorized to retain these documents. He also shared some of this information with his ghost writer. Hillary Clinton also broke similar laws with classified information. The justice department refused to prosecute both of them. Donald Trump also retained classified information but the justice department wants to put him in jail. Trump claims he is protected by the presidential protection act. It seems very obvious to me that we have a corrupt justice department that just goes after republicans.

    1. When Biden and PENCE found classified documents they contacted the FBI to collect them and allowed them to search their homes for more. Trump lied about having them for 18 months, returned some of them and then claimed he did not have any more. This was a deliberate and willful act by Trump and had anyone else done this they would have been arrested in a matter of days.

The Former Presidential Protection Act, H.R.6620, is about former Presidents having a pension and Secret Service protection. Former Presidents are not allowed to retain classified documents according to The Presidential Records Act states that “Former Presidents are not allowed to retain classified documents according to The Presidential “

      1. Everything you said about Trump is alleged and not proven . The FBI and the justice department have been framing him since he’s been in office. The Russian hoax alone is proof enough.

      2. Judah, it is pointless to debate or discuss with Daniel. He is a MAGA cult member.

    2. Tell that to Democrats Sen. Menendez, his wife, and Rep. Henry Cuellar (Texas) and George E. Norcross (state charges).
BTW, since Republicans are ONLY for corporations & the wealthy, there’s probably more corruption there.
P.S. Let’s give Daniel, Trump & Biden an IQ test. Biden would blow both these 🤡’s out of the water!

  5. For clarity purposes let’s see the videotapes of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel. Maybe it was not a political hatchet job but a truthful statement based on his observations at the time of the interview. I am not a legal expert and maybe his statement about President Biden’ s acuity was not necessary. But does the public have a right to know about the leader of the free world and his ability to govern.

    1. You’re right and Trump should have tot take a full psychological evaluation to make sure he is mentally stable.

  6. Gee, confusion in who said what and to whom, misleading or made-up ‘quotes,’ wholesale changes in stories, the press attacking or not attacking depending on which party is the accuser or accusee, and on and on. Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose.

    1. They all broke the law. But the corrupt justice department is selective on who they prosecute.

      1. Yeah, the DOJ is racist, too. They only investigate Italians (Mafia), Mexicans( Mexican Mafia, 18th Street Gang, El Chapo), Salvadorans ( MS-13) Colombians (Carlos Lehder, Cali Cartel), Blacks (Crips & Bloods), Muslims (ISIS, Al-Queda, Hezbollah).
Daniel wants to get rid of the DOJ & FBI so criminals & terrorists can run amok.

  7. My question is why won’t they release the tapes of the interview? Frankly, I have zero trust in the DOJ to be forthcoming. I’m sure they heavily edited it.

  8. I doubt that they were edited, but they should be released. They don’t pose a threat to national security. Somebody will get a book deal out of it , long after we are gone.

    1. Obviously, many have forgotten the Nixon tapes and what it took to get a listen to them.
