Do your own research on Project 2025

This is a public service, putting Project 2025 on the bullseye in the focus.

You have been hearing a lot about it, and a lot of what you have heard is lies, distortions, and half-truths.

Snopes takes a deep dive into the Heritage Foundation plan to reshape the U.S. government under conservative principles.

2025 has not been embraced by Donald J. Trump, who claims to be unfamiliar with it, or even Heritage.

Of course, that is ridiculous. For his Supreme Court nominees, he used a list provided by Heritage and the Federalist Society. He also said, in the same sentence, that he had no idea what was in 2025, and that some of it is crazy. How could he know some of it is crazy if he had no idea what was in it?

Anyway. . .

Are some of those who created the 940-page report Trumpsters? Yes.

Does that mean it is Trump’s document? No.

Might he want to impose portions of it? Yes.

For the record, I agree with some of it, disagree with some of it, which I may detail in a future column. This time I am just giving you the opportunity to do your own research.

While some critics are calling it Trump’s fever dream, many of its ideas were first proposed by Ronald Reagan in 1981, as reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer.

But you may not trust the Inquirer,  so I point you to the analysis by Snopes, which does have a left tilt, but I find it to be trustworthy. If you don’t like Snopes, you can go to AP, Reuters, the Washington Post, and so on. But don’t use the fact check on JoeBiden.com. That is incredibly one-sided.

If you have the time and interest (I don’t) you can read the entire report, to which Snopes provides a link.

Read the whole thing, or a synopsis, or a fact check, but do read something before posting your opinions of it.

  1. I wouldn’t even dream of commenting on something I know almost nothing about, except to say that if some of the precepts are radical, I know Donald Trump is not a radical and would never ascribe to any of its radical ideas. I’ve heard comments from the left that it could mean our social security and medicare would be eliminated and I don’t believe that for a minute.

    1. Keep giving tax cuts to the rich & ultra-rich and the budget will have to be ‘trimmed’ somewhere (not the defense budget). That leaves Medicare/Medicaid & Social Security as the obvious choices for Republicans to cut. Last year Repub🤡 tried to cut $20 billion from the VA, another Republican target.

        1. The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Military Times, for ex. I also read Scientific American, but that might be above your levels of comprehension.

  2. Please Stu do the research for me as I have only read the cliff notes for the last year. But I do know people in Trump world and even they say it is an unrealistic document. But that is what think tanks do and book shelves are filled with unread treatises. But I did read the Mueller report, and the “Russian Hoax” was no hoax and they, the Chinese, and Iranians are at it again.

    1. Cost-benefit analysis, Larry, tells me the time spent reading it is not worth the benefit of summarizing it in a column.
Unlike the Mueller report and the JFK report, 2025 is an idea proposal, not an explanation of an important national event.

      1. I am and I think most are saying Project 25 is a list of issues to work through. (Certain there is a Progressive manifesto/agenda too). Some topics are worth the effort and others are there for consideration and negotiation. There is a major problem with where folks get their “news”, most legacy news injects opinions to unfortunately slant a case against a conservative philosophy and are pro a progressive agenda. With a few exceptions ,the left has secured the “high ground” (the media & education) and uses it to control the American mind.

    2. When you raed the Mueller report did you see this in the conclusion?
“The Special Counsel investigation uncovered extensive criminal activity
The investigation produced 37 indictments; seven guilty pleas or convictions; and compelling evidence that the president obstructed justice on multiple occasions. Mueller also uncovered and referred 14 criminal matters to other components of the Department of Justice.
Trump associates repeatedly lied to investigators about their contacts with Russians, and President Trump refused to answer questions about his efforts to impede federal proceedings and influence the testimony of witnesses.
A statement signed by over 1,000 former federal prosecutors concluded that if any other American engaged in the same efforts to impede federal proceedings the way Trump did, they would likely be indicted for multiple charges of obstruction of justice.”

  3. I agree there are good proposals and bad proposals in what I have read. What I do know is that the far left has taken over the Democratic party. And the results have been a disaster. The democrats have weaponized the government against the people. The justice department the FBI , CIA, IRS, the Dept. Of Education have been actively try to attack conservatives and people of faith. The armed services are changing from a fighting force to a haven for the LbGT community. I wonder why recruitment is down. Biological men are now allowed to ruin women’s sports. We need a quick change and the Republican platform is a lot closer to the center than the far left democrats. Vote Trump.

    1. As usual, virtually everything Daniel posts here is a distortion or a flat-out lie taken right from Faux “News,” which is obviously the only thing he watches every day. They have successfully made Daniel into a frightened child who sees boogie men around every corner. Don’t be like Daniel. Don’t watch ANY cable news shows. Use your brain.

      1. You are so right Freeze. Stu has made similar comments about this guy, as have I. It doesn’t do any good. Rather than reflecting on what people are telling him, or doing some actual research, he continues to post crap. A true cult member. It’s scary, because he’s only one of millions out there.

          1. I am still waiting for you to explain why these facts are twisted and what the actual answer is.
“Which one of these facts have I twisted and what is the correct answer?
The Saudi’s and Israel have been engaged in discussions since 2015. One of the key demands by the Saudi’s is that Israel should return to the 1948 borders. Which are militarily indefensible.

The President has no control over the price of gas and groceries. Its corporations.

Trump invited Putin to attack our European allies. He sucked up to dictators around the world with no results. Including failing to get North Korea to give up their nuclear weapons.

Trump tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations added $7.8 trillion to the national debt. 33.1%. Biden has only added 8%.”

        1. He must think ‘The Economist’, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes are ‘woke socialist’ publications. Daniel is so deep in right field you need the James Webb space telescope to find him.

      2. I watch and read a lot of things and I use my brain. I don’t know where you get your information but it’s very one sided. Maybe you should plan a trip to Oz . And the wizard will give you a brain and bring Wicked Wanda with you.

          1. I should not have to explain general knowledge to people who don’t pay attention. You are a uninformed idiot. Do your own research.

        1. Carpet bagger Oz LOST!!! BtW, like the Founding Fathers said, leave GOD out of it. This country is maybe 60% Christian. Church attendance is declining every year. More & more people, especially the young are atheists. Your religious beliefs have NO place in government. White Patriarchal Christian Nationalism is bigotry, pure & simple. The 1st amendment says you have freedom of religion. It also means you have freedom FROM religion (& psuedo-religious loonies like Daniel who want to force their beliefs on everyone).

  4. P.S. How do we know Project 2025 is not on Trump’s agenda? Well, because he said so. He wouldn’t LIE, would he? I mean, he had never outright lied before, has he? Please don’t be gullible. Three SCOTUS nominees took the stand and told Congress Roe v Wade was “settled law.” Even now, the Republicans are saying they don’t believe in a national abortion ban, while putting together State laws that are achieving that exact end anyway. Even now, Trump is saying he will not get rid of social security and Medicare while the party crafts plans, like raising the age, that are without a doubt simply another way of cutting these things. If you are dumb enough to trust Trump, you deserve what you will surely be getting, which will be chaos. The man has been a criminal and Charlatan his entire life. Ask virtually any contractor who ever worked with him in NY or NJ. Where is your evidence that he will stop now? My goodness. You people amaze me in your sheer willful ignorance about who this person is. He has made the Republican Party of Reagan and Bush virtually unrecognizable, to the point where hard-line Conservatives like Cheney and Kinzinger were pushed out. And you have the BALLS to call the Democratic Party “radical?” Puh-leese.

    1. What country have you two assholes been living in. You would think Biden and the democrats have done a great job. The people with common sense know what’s going on.

      1. Care to explain this?
Trump tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations added $7.8 trillion to the national debt. 33.1%. Biden has only added 8%.

    2. A lot to unpack. We KNOW he is the greatest political liar in U.S. history but he is ON RECORD as not embracing in whole, although he may in part. Just yesterday he said he would not touch Social Security nor raise the age (which he probably believes is 65, which it is not). He is firmly and believably against a national abortion, believably because most of his life he was pro choice and he knows a national ban costs him votes.
You mention Reagan and Bush in a positive way, sort of. A lot of Project 2025 reflects Reagan ideas in 1981. So how radical is it, really?
I grant you, no question, it targets protections for LGBTAQ+, which I disagree with, but also targets woke policies (the new, unimproved woke, not the old woke) which I do agree with. As you know, I hate the new, PC woke.

      1. Uh, it sounds like you are living the adage, “It depends on whose ox is being gored.”

      2. “but he is ON RECORD as not embracing in whole, although he may in part” He is also on the record for this.
“Trump said, “Listen: Nancy Pelosi was in charge of security. She turned down 10,000 soldiers. If she didn’t turn down the soldiers, you wouldn’t have had January 6.” He said explicitly, “She’s responsible for January 6……The speaker of the House has no authority to prevent the deployment of the District of Columbia National Guard, which reports to the president (whose authority is delegated, under a decades-old executive order, to the Secretary of the Army).”

“Welker said to Trump, “If elected, you say you would order the Defense Department to use special forces to inflict maximum damage on drug cartels.” But Trump responded, “I didn’t say that. No. People said I said that.” He repeated, “I didn’t say that.”
In a video he released in January, which remains on his website, he said that, if elected president again, “I will order the Department of Defense to make appropriate use of special forces, cyber-warfare, and other overt and covert actions to inflict maximum damage on cartel leadership, infrastructure and operations.””

Trump is a malignant narcist, he will say anything to achieve what he wants, including lying.

  5. Of course 2025 is scaring the daylights out of Democrats — it’s the new “Halliburton! Halliburton!” “War on Women!” And “Danger to Democracy!” chant.
Yet a majority of their own Green New Deal think tank proposals are either actually becoming law or made law by the president’s own pen and phone (who needs Congress, anyway?) As a result, we’re about to be blessed with thousands of turbines, spinning and blinking away on our shores, and occasionally washing metal and petroleum products up in the beaches. And EVs WILL be forced upon us, but you’d better believe that God, Mom and apple pie won’t be.
I suggest reading the 2025 document, then comparing it to the actual Republican platform. Don’t let Joy Reid and her ilk succeed with their hysterical rants.

    1. The people who worked on Project 2025 include 240 former Trump officials, including 6 former cabinet members and multiple political PACs that Trump interacts with.

In 1903 the largest industry in America was whaling, now its not. When cars came along the Horse and Buggy industry had a huge outcry against cars. Now people like you are doing the same thing with EV’s. If you don’t like change give up you computer and cell phone and stick to landlines and typewriters.

      1. What asshole are the democrats going to give us this time. The hell with democracy we will tell you who to vote for. And all of you idiots will do what your told.

      2. Please do try not to deflect. We are not talking about whether change is good or bad. We are talking about Democrats distorting the product of a think tank. There is no mandatory requirement that a political party embrace all or any of its proposals. The Democrats are using it as a fear mongering tool, and yet they are the ones who are forcefully putting into practice almost all of the tenets of the Green New Deal think tank proposal. And in many cases, they are bypassing Congress in order to do it.

And you are making a reduction in whale hunting the equivalent of electric vehicles, which have not proven themselves one way or the other and probably will not for another 20 or 30 years. But at the same time, you would deny that whales are dying because of the left’s insistence on turbines just off our beaches. Do you want to save the whales or not? Do you even know what you believe and why?

        1. Well, Trump appointed judges like the execrable Aileen Cannon (a card-carrying Federalist Society member). We don’t need judges like this one. (She’s ‘pro-defendant’ like Larry Krasner). Don’t forget the three 🙈🙉🙊 Trump🤡 put on SCOTUS.

  6. RADICAL in 1770s: Why not declare independence from Great Britain?
RADICAL in 1860s: Why not freedom for Negroes?
RADICAK in 1900s: Why not give the vote to women?
RADICAL in 1960s: ‘Separate but equal’ is wrong
…and many. many other ‘radical’ ideas.

‘Radical’ comes in many disguises. And many times, ‘radical’ turns out to be correct.

  7. Nobody’s read it. Yet everybody’s commenting on it. Do you all work for the Inquirer?

  8. In 1903, the whaling industry was not the largest industry in America.
It was railroads, and the Pennsylvania Railroad was on its way becoming the world’s largest corporation.

Manufacturing was booming as well due to the fact that the factories had the railroads to deliver their goods.

Whaling was not a Gilded Age money-maker.

    1. You’re right. It was the biggest industry in the 19th century. In 1903 the railroads were one of the largest industries in America, they have since been supplanted by airplanes. Just like something is going to replace the oil industry and gas powered cars.

  9. And most of the investments in clean energy are in Republican-controlled states. Go figure. Ohio is an important state for EV manufacturers. Too bad that fool JD Vance is against them and the thousands of Ohio jobs they created. Obviously, Vance sold his soul to the devil trump instead if looking out for Ohioans.
    He drank the MAGAT Kool-Ade.
